I am more then excited by the new trailer for the 21st Bond film in the series, this is close to the excitement I had back in 96′ for the release of Goldeneye, its palpable no question. Even though the new teaser trailer that is floating around isn’t”supposedly official” its solid and gives a great warmup of more to come (if you want to see it click the image above and it will load). I personally would have edited the teaser with more “tease in it” start with a black screen, lay in the beat track of the theme but do it slowly, let the camera float over black & white dead bodies with playing cards in their hands and pockets, really tease the audience cause after 20 films you got to put the spark back in the marriage for this in order to keep it going. All aside though its a great trailer.

The series on the other hand concerns me. There were two things that the Bond Series needed to do after the Brosnan run:

One, was they needed to take the films more seriously and with a touch of class. Cause nothing says class less then a dirty old man quoting “I thought Christmas came only once a year?” that is a line that should never have been in the films. There needs to be less impossible “save the day” gadgets and more serious “tricks of the trade” you should watch a bond film like you used to watch MacGyver, always wondering how is he going to use that exploding pack of gum that Q gave him, not the invisible car that has 8 rockets and a ICBM in the boot.

Two, James Bond needs to enjoy the job. You don’t need to watch the guy grimace and sweat every moment, or worse yet find no pleasure in the work. The 2 things that should be part of any Bond is a Tux and a smile. Connery did it best because he didn’t flinch much and had a devils smirk every now and then.

I know how I see the Bond character is not how everyone does and I don’t sacrifice the endless hours and money that Barbara Broccoli and her people do, but if the comic movie revolution has taught hollywood anything its the simple fact that if you don’t love and value a series and its small rules and qualities then the viewers will not come out to see it. The comparative profits from a Bryan Singer film as opposed to a Uwe Boll is quite large so if you cant understand the qualification of film-making hopefully people are not dense enough to miss the quantification of film box office receipts. If your too tired to be a guarding fan, hire one.

Back in 2003 I had a series of paintings put to video with music. After going through the archives I thought this also would be interesting to post agian and get feedback. The idea behind the series is a celebration of the people in our life, both good and bad. How they bring light and energy to our lives in much the same way as a dim and old film on a black wall. We have them and the dancing light they give off even if only for a second at a time then the rest of it we wait in the dark eager for the next sequence. Think of the people that give you hope, enjoyment, change. The people that even if they dont do everything you would want, when they are gone you want them back. Everything changes, life and moments are fleeting and always in flux. So remeber those who make your life brighter both pro and con. Even if its in the abstract cherish what you have and look forward to what’s to come.

The Weapons of Tomorrow Today?

Click image to play movie. 19mb takes time to load.

Be in any industry long enough and you have to sit through a film crudely produced by a company in hopes of selling you some product, idea, or entirely new paradigm (or even the use of the new word paradigm). They often have graphics produced by preschoolers with clip art books and Elmers glue. Then add music ripped from a movie theater pre-show trivia soundtrack. One of the more interesting a friend sent me was for the “new” Dread Gun that is being produced in hopes of eliminating the need for chemical ammunition. Watch, enjoy and see the future of tomorrow just as the previous generation did when they saw the Jetsons.
